Homer’s Odyssey is a series of 24 large paintings with a full translation of each chapter

The Odyssey is an ongoing painting series initiated in 2007-present consisting of twenty-four ‘combine’ paintings. Stretchers and canvas dually act as supports and are inclusive to the composition as are other various ready-mades. This series references its predecessor,
the Iliad [2001-2003] where text markings were utilized to build layered imagery. Stretchers in the Odyssey series are reconfigured to create a symbol or object and text is used for spatial depth.

Each book is multi-layered and includes a formal translation of The Odyssey. The translation used for ‘IMC’, book 5 painting was by R. Lattimore. Other translations in English will be utilized.

I created this one-off painting titled, ‘vehicle’ in 2000. It has hung on my studio wall and has continued to fascinate me. In 2025 I began building a series of small chariot/vehicle paintings.

Throughout Homer’s Odyssey short narratives were embedded within each book/chapter; some are mentioned several times in multiple chapters.

Some are fables, predictions, and allegories; many are fascinating and lead to more reading.

While working on the large Odyssey paintings which take a few years to complete I am laterally working on smaller paintings 30” x 40” to capture their presence within the Odyssey.

The Little Odyssey series began in 2017 and will continue until the Odyssey is complete.
